Mother & Baby Kit
Did you know: More than 80 per cent of newborn deaths are the result of premature birth, complications during labour and delivery and infections such as sepsis, meningitis and pneumonia. UNICEF, 2018
More children under the age of five die in India than in any other country in the
world, and largely from avoidable causes. To start addressing these challenges,
DSF has developed a ‘Mother & Baby Survival Kit’ in conjunction with local
doctors and nutritionists.
These kits are distributed to expectant mothers in rural areas, particularly in the interiors of Gujarat. These mothers previously used to wrap their babies in the one cloth that they own, leading to early infections in the newborn child.
As a minimum packs include the following:
For Babies: a warm wrapping blanket,
changing mat, baby grows, cotton
nappies, hats, mittens, bibs, clean towels.
For the Mother: Night gowns, under
garments, head scarves, slippers and
a warm blanket.
